Darts -
Congratulations to the Boys and the Girls teams for winning the Indoor State Championships at BYU this past weekend. It was an incredible meet for the Darts with many prs and a solid TEAM performance. It is nice to know that hard work and positive attitudes are paying off with improvement and success. The athletes on the TEAM that have been dedicated really deserve this win.
The boys dominated the competition scoring 91 points. Box Elder was 2nd with 43, and Timpanogos was 3rd with 31. We had a strong start with Bryce Hall and Tony Hill finishing 1-2 in the shot put. Bryce threw a stadium record 59'01.50 and Tony continued his pr rampage with a 53'10.25. Bryce came back in the weight throw to break his own stadium record with 61'09.75 (the #3 throw in Utah history). On Saturday the performance of the meet was Ryan Avery's 1st place 7.01 60m dash. It is the 6th fastest time ever run by a Utahn. We also had scoring performances from Jonathan Ferguson (6th long jump), Jordan Stuart (4th pole vault - huge pr!), Rob White (8th pole vault), Tony Hill (3rd weight throw), Benson Richards (8th 400), Spencer Anderson (8th mile, 4th 800), Shaun Webb (3rd Hurdles), Taylor Carling (7th 60m, 5th 200), Ryan Avery (6th 200), Seth Gutzwiller (2nd 3200 - barely), Bryce Larsen (5th 3200), and the 1st place relay TEAM - Shaun Webb, Dan Willoughby, Benson Richards, and Wes Althoff. There were also many other personal bests and some great support from all members of the TEAM.
The girls competition was much closer and came down to the relay at the end of the day. The Lady Darts ended up scoring 93.5 points beating last year's champions, Spanish Fork by only 4 1/2 points. It shows how important every point and every effort counts - a lesson that is important to learn going into outdoor. Timpanogos was 3rd place with 36 points.
The girls were led by a stadium record by Natalie Haws in the 2 mile. She broke the record that Candace set 2 weeks ago by running 11:08.58. The two of them now have the #3 and #4 fastest indoor 2 mile times in Utah history. Brooke Jensen continued to blaze the track in the hurdles with another pr in 9.17 to take 2nd. It is the 6th fastest time in Utah history for that event. Candace Eddy ran 5:11.37 to win the mile (just .43 seconds off of the stadium record), and then came back to finish a strong 2nd in the 800. The distance runners continued to show their strength with 9 girls under 6:00 in the mile, and 10 girls 2:40 or faster in the 800. Other scoring athletes included Amy Rees (3rd high jump), Britin Storey (7th high jump), Chelsea Jackson (6th 400, 6th 60m hurdles), Loren Storey (6th mile, 7th 800), Collette Simmons (7th 60m hurdles), Kristin Billings (3rd 60m dash, 7th 200), Dani Figgins (7th 60m, 4th 200), Brooke Jensen (6th 200m), Emily Hansen (6th 2 mile), and the 3rd place relay TEAM of Jessica Wilding, Loren Storey, Missy Lott, and Chelsea Jackson. There were many prs and a lot of TEAM support. It was also great to have Brittany Sumsion at the meet again, anxious to be recovered and be running :)
