After what seemed like a year and a half at the Olympic Oval, we came home from the Utah State Indoor Championships with 2 trophies. The girls finished the meet with their 3rd straight indoor state championship. The boys finished a close 2nd to a very strong Syracuse team (congrats to Coach Buhrley and his athletes). It was an extremely long meet on both Friday and Saturday, but our persistence and our depth paid off as the girls came from behind to catch both Syracuse and Riverton in the final 5 events. Going into the 4 x 800m relay (the final event), we were 2 points behind Syracuse and 2 points behind Riverton - our 2nd place finish gave us 8 points to Syracuse's their 5th place finish - 2 points, giving us the 4 point victory. It would have been much more dramatic had we known what the score was at that point. The boys moved from 3rd to 2nd in the final events as well. Great job to all of our athletes and a special thanks to our coaches for their time and expertise - Coach West, Coach Agnello, Dan Hayward, Steve Petty, Brad Anderson, and Coach Parrish.
We were most impressed with the amount of prs we saw at the meet. It was a good opportunity to run fast, and we took advantage of that. As coaches, we feel like we have a young TEAM with a lot of potential and a lot of work still to be done. This TEAM has the potential to be another one of our great TEAMs, and we have learned a lot and improved a lot through the indoor season. We have to continue to make an identity for this year's TEAM based on hard work, commitment, unity, leadership, and having fun. I was happy to see quite a few runners still at the meet at 8:00pm when we picked up the trophies. Of course we would have liked to see more of you, but we also understand the other commitments which you may have had. The girls didn't really capture the lead until the final 2 relays. It would have been nice to have more TEAM support and cheering and enthusiasm at the end of the meet--I think it would have helped our athletes in the final events. We can continue to work on this as the season progresses, and we had better be especially excited and noisy at the Simplot Games as we are bringing the biggest group of athletes.
I want the new athletes to know that this was not a typical meet, and I hope it doesn't discourage you from continuing track - by not typical, I mean it usually doesn't take that long to get through events. I will always feel like Davis High Track & Field puts on the very best when it comes to track meets, and I hope that you will take pride in that for the 2 important meets we will be hosting this spring.

Coming Up:
Simplot Games - February 18-20: We will have an important meeting discussing Simplot on Monday, February 8th. We will have a mandatory meeting on Tuesday, February 16th. The waiver and money are due on Friday, February 12th. Let me know what questions and concerns you may have. We will be going over events, rides, rooms, etc. at different points this week.
T-shirts/Sweats order - We should be getting our shirts later this week or early the following week. In order to pick up your order, you will need to turn in your receipt to Coach Talley or Coach West. You can pay in the office and bring us the receipt at any time. $12 for shirts, $25 for sweats.
Thanks again for all your commitment. Thanks for making the sacrifices you needed to make to be there on Friday and Saturday. Two more weeks and then we shift our focus to outdoor track. . .
Keep working hard -
Coach Talley
