January 14th update

USU MEET
After several weeks of workouts, we finally got a chance to see where we are and get the competitive juices flowing. I was pretty excited about the results. I thought we had some great marks to begin the season, and I was pleased with the excitement and enthusiasm the TEAM brought to the meet. It was cool to have the biggest TEAM there. Although the performances I am listing here are only the ones that finished in the top 8, we had a lot of solid efforts and PRs from the entire TEAM. I was especially impressed with some of the "rookie" athletes.
On the girls side we had some high finishes in nearly every event. Kristen Billings finished 3rd in the 60m Dash (8.37, #7 all-time) and Dani Figgins just missed finals (8.55, #12 all-time). Brooke Jensen won the 60m Hurdles (9.55, #4 all-time) and Cassi Berg, a Northridge Knight training with us finished 5th (10.36), and Rachel Jackson just missed the all-time list in her first time running the hurdles (10.95). Chelsea Jackson finished 3rd in the 400m (1:03.96). The girls dominated the distance races finishing with 4 in the top 8 of the 800: Candace Eddy 1st (2:25.1), Natalie Haws 2nd (2:29.1), Loren Storey 4th (2:34.6) and Kelsey Valentine 8th (2:37.2). The girls also placed 7 in the top 15 in the 1600m led by Candace 1st (5:14.03), Natalie 2nd (5:17.54, #2 all-time), and Loren 8th (5:43.43). Loren Storey also finished 4th in the Long Jump (14'09). 3 girls placed in the high jump: Britin Storey 6th (4'10), Amy Rees 7th (4'08), and Michelle Clouse 8th (4'06). And the girls 4 x 200 relay teams finished 1st and 3rd. The 1st place team was Brooke Jensen, Rachel Jackson, Missy Lott, and Chelsea Jackson.
The boys results included 3 school records. Maik Wehmeyer finished 2nd place and shattered the 60m Dash record (7.14). Bryce Hall won the shot put breaking his own school record (59'04.50). And the 4x200 team of Maik Wehmeyer, Taylor Carling, Zach Bourden, and Shaun Webb finished in 1st place breaking a 15 year old school record (1:35.36), our B-Team finished in 2nd place right on their heals (1:38.06). We had 3 more all-time marks in the 60m Dash: Taylor Carling (7.26, #2 all-time), Zach Bourden (7.48, #9 all-time), and Tanner Hinds (7.52, #10 all time). Shaun Webb finished 3rd in the 60m Hurdles (8.68, #3 all-time). Benson Richards won the 400m Dash (54.11), and Wes Althoff finished 5th (54.49). Derek Gallacher finished 3rd in the 800 (2:09.19), and Bryce Larsen was 4th (2:11.19). Bryce also finished 6th in the 1600m (4:49.63). Tony Hill showed his strength in the shot put placing 2nd to Bryce (51'07.50, #7 all-time). Bryce also won the weight throw (53'01.25, #3 all-time). Shaun Webb finished 6th in the high jump (5'10). Jordan Stuart placed 5th in the pole vault (11'00) and Alan Dixon finished 8th (10'06). And Jonathan Ferguson and Brock Rasmussen finished 7th and 8th in the long jump (18'03).
This first meet showed that we have a lot of potential, and that we have some areas where we need to work hard and develop some depth over the next 5 months. The biggest highlight was having over 60 Darts at the meet having fun and competing hard.
