Darts -
It was a long 2 days at the BYU Invitational, but it was also extremely successful for the Darts. We competed well, had a lot of fun, and even broke a few records. One of the records we set was for the amount of athletes entered in the meet from one team. We had 94 athletes from Davis entered in the meet. It shows a lot of commitment. Coaches were constantly asking me how we get so many people to participate in indoor track. I think most of them were upset that we were contributing so much to the length of the meet. I think a big reason why we have so many on the TEAM is because you bring so much energy and enthusiasm for the sport. Thanks for all the work and time you are each putting into the program.
The girls set 2 fieldhouse records yesterday - Brooke Jensen in the 60m hurdles and Candace Eddy in the mile run. Brooke's time of 8.94 (which she ran in the trials and the finals) broke the old record of 9.04 from 1992. Not only did it break the meet record, but it is also a new school record and a new state record. Brooke is the first Utah hurdler to go under 9 seconds in the 60m hurdles. Candace's mile time of 5:07.15 beat the old record of 5:10 from 1994. She missed the record last year by under a second, but took a commanding lead early in the race this year and stayed strong through the finish.
There was another fieldhouse record associate with our TEAM yesterday. In the coaches mile, Stefanie (my wife) ran 5:44.10 to set a new female coaches record. Nice job Stef :)
Both the boys and the girls teams had a ton of prs and season bests at the meet. For full results go to www.runnercard.com and for our teams performance list go to www.davisindoortrack.blogspot.com

Coming Up:

Monday (no school) - There will be no practice on Monday. Distance Runners should go out for a 6-8 mile run; everyone else should go out for a light 1-2 mile jog and do some stretching.
Tuesday (no school) - Distance runners will meet at the school at 1:30 to go to the oval for a workout (we will need drivers); Tuesday's practice is optional for everyone else. We will meet at the school at 1:30 to open the facilities.

Track Class
- the first day of track class will be on Thursday. We will meet in the small gym. Be prepared to work out. Gym lockers need to be cleaned out. We will be assigning new lockers.

Weber State Invitational (Jan 23-24):
The field events will once again be contested Friday evening, and the track events on Saturday. We will NOT be taking a bus up to Weber State, so it will be important for you to coordinate your own transportation to the Swenson Gym on the Weber State campus. We will hand out more information about the meet at practice on Wednesday.

Simplot Games: The signed parent letters are due on Friday the 23rd of January. Coach West and I will then determine the 70 athletes who will be going to Simplot with the TEAM. If you want to go, please turn in the form. If you have lost the form, get another one from me this week.

Alumni News:
Many former Davis Athletes competed in the college meet in Pocatello last Friday. Natalie Haws (wsu) won the 3000m run in 9:58. Loren Storey (wsu) ran 5:24 in the mile. Tara Anderson (byu) took 3rd in the long jump - 17'07 adn ran 8.20 in the 60m and 27.01 in the 200. Kristin Billings (wsu) ran 7.98 in the 60m and 26.58 in the 200m. Camille Lott (wsu) ran 26.34 in the 200m and 59.73 in the 400m. Alayna Ferrin (suu) threw 38'11 in the shot put and 46'08 in the weight throw, finishing 6th. Jenny Welling (byu) ran 2:23 in the 800. Shaun Webb (wsu) ran 51.47 in the 400 and 8.81 in the hurdles. Max Lennardt (wsu) ran 1:57.15 in the 800 for 5th place. Jace Nye (wsu) ran 4:15.8 in the mile for 3rd place. Chris Burnett (wsu) ran 9:03 in the 3000m. Matt Daley (wsu) jumped 5'11 in the high jump. I probably missed someone, but we were definitely well-represented.

It has been a great start to our indoor season. We are looking good at this point, but we need to continue to stay committed and consistent. If any of you who get this email have stopped coming but would like to start again - come to practice on Wednesday - after school in the Cafeteria.

Thanks,
Coach Talley
