Indoor Update - Simplot Games

Darts -
This is the final indoor update of the season. I hope that you all enjoyed your experience. I feel we have gotten stronger as a TEAM and as individuals - we are getting fit, learning to compete, and improving like crazy. Congrats to all of you who put in the work and had a successful indoor season. We have a really easy week in front of us, and then I hope you are motivated to work hard and have the best outdoor season ever...

Thanks for a great weekend at the Simplot Games. It is always one of my favorite weekends of the year. There were so many strong performances - PRs, season bests, and tough efforts. I have typed up all of the Davis performances on the bottom of this email, and you should be able to find the full results at www.simplotgames.com I will also post some pictures on facebook (hopefully later today).
We set quite a few TEAM records this year. We had 121 athletes participate in the Games (old record = 113). We entered 39 relay teams in the meet (old record = 36). We beat the team record for individuals qualifying for finals with 25 (old record = 24). And we beat our team record for relays racing on Saturday with 15. But even more important than those records was the determination and teamwork that we witnessed event after event. I thought we did an awesome job cheering for and encouraging each other. The energy and unity that we had at the Simplot Games is going to be crucial to our success in the outdoor season this year. Let's carry that momentum right into our outdoor workouts. Hopefully that energy is contagious.
A few very notable performances - Xakai Harry set a new school record in the long jump with 22'11. It is also the #3 All-Time mark in Utah state history and the best indoor jump (for Utah) since 1995. Xakai also nearly got the school record in the high jump. He cleared 6'07 and nearly got 6'09. Aubrey Argyle ran a very strong race in the 3200 to finish 4th place in 10:56. She is only our 2nd athlete to ever run under 11:00 indoors - and she has done it 4 times. Eli Beard had 2 PRs, 2 finals qualifiers, and 2 Davis All-Time top 10 marks with his 51'07 weight throw and 51'04 shot put. Mary Page was our first girl in the past 9 years to make finals in the shot put and threw 36'08 which was the top Utah mark and Davis #4 All-Time. We had 3 boy hurdlers make the finals (Caleb Kamalu, Zach Olsen, and Andrew Simonsen) - all 3 of them are juniors. It was the first time we have ever had 3 boys in there - and only the 2nd time we have had more than 1. Ashley Taylor had an incredible PR jump in the pole vault and was our first finalist since 2012. Kelton Johnson finished a strong 8th in the 400m and was only our 2nd finalist in that event in the past 10 years. We were also impressed with relay after relay. We ended with 7 relay teams on the podium (top 6). Our boys 4 x 400 ran our #2 all-time mark with 3:26 for 4th. Our girls 4 x 400 also finished 4th with the #3 all time mark. And both the boys and the girls 4 x 800 finished 2nd - keeping our streak going on both sides. The boys 4 x 800 has been on the podium for 11 straight years, and the girls are at 10 in a row. And we had quite a few work horses who competed in 5+ events over the 3 days: Miah Weaver (two 1600s and three 800s), Ally Geisler (two 1600s, one 800, and two 400s), Keslee Stephenson (five 400s), Becky Swanson (four 400s and two 200s), Olivia Griffin (three 400s and two 200s), Ruby Jane Mathewson (three 400s, two 60 hurdles, and one 200), Lindsay DiReda (three 400s and two 200s), Alicia Halverson (two 1600s and two 800s), Kelton Johnson (five 400s and one 200), Andrew Simonsen (HJ, LJ, two 400s, two 60 hurdles), Jacob Vaughan (two 1600s and two 800s). It was pretty awesome watching our athletes get out there and dig in time after time.
Thanks so much to our parents who were able to help in any way over the three days - rides, chaperones, donations, photographs, cheering, and just great support. Thanks for raising some incredible kids and allowing them to spend so much time with our TEAM. Thanks!!!

I will send out an additional email tomorrow with upcoming information for the outdoor track season. There is no practice on Tuesday this week. I will see most of you in class on Wednesday and all of you at the outdoor track meeting on Friday.

Thanks again!!
Coach Talley
